FAQ's

Cladding FAQ’s

  1. What wood do you use?

We are proud to say that all of the wood we use is 100% reclaimed from carefully sourced quality pallets within a 10mile radius of our workshop on the edge of the New Forest. Some pallet wood cannot be identified however most pallets are made from pinewood.

  1. Are the nails removed from the boards?

The sharp ends are sawn off level on our large pallet dismantling machine leaving the nail heads in for added rustic effect. On the odd occasion, some nails do get missed and we do our best to either remove these or hammer them into the rear side of the wood.

  1. Is pallet wood safe to use for indoor cladding?

Yes, pallet wood is perfectly safe to use for indoor cladding. We only use pallets suitable and the Euro pallets we use have all been heat treated. You can wash the wood prior to use if you wish and apply a treatment, but this is not necessary and down to preference.

  1. Is the wood kiln dried?

No, we do not have the facility to kiln dry the boards. The pallets we use however have been heat treated.

  1. How thick are the boards?

The boards range from 10mm and 20mm. Whilst we do try and pick as similar thicknesses as possible, due to the nature of reclaimed wood it is not always possible. To find out what thickness your order or potential order would be, please contact us.

  1. Do you supply any thin, lightweight cladding suitable for camper vans?

Yes, we can supply lightweight cladding which is perfect for camper vans, yachts etc that have a weight restriction. You can shop this range below

We can apply special finishes to this range also, please let us know if this interests you!

  1. What is the difference between “Weathered” and “Mixed Natural”?

Mixed Natural will have light, medium and dark tones*. Weathered includes solely boards that look worn and weathered and can be much darker/grey tones.

*Mixed Natural will have Weathered boards in the mix

  1. Can you supply dark boards?

Yes, we can supply medium-dark tones. Please let us know at the time of ordering if you would prefer this.

  1. What is the difference between “Sanded” and “UnSanded” options?

The unsanded boards are cut, measured and packed straight from the pallet. The sanded boards are put through our large machine brush sanders face side only until smooth. Due to the nature of some reclaimed wood, despite sanding multiple times it is impossible to achieve a satin smooth finish. Whilst we do check for any splinters when packing, we recommend you use gloves when handling the wood and always handle it with care.

  1. How do I attach the boards to the wall?

There are a few different ways to clad the boards depending on the type of wall. The most popular way is to mount battens vertically, or horizontally depending on which way you are cladding, using screws and then nailing the boards onto the battens. It is recommended to paint the wall black or a dark colour prior to cladding to reduce the visibility of any gaps. Another popular way is to use a strong adhesive and clad the boards directly to the wall. Always check the wall type before planning how you are going to clad.

  1. What cladding is suitable for outside?

We offer our most popular range Mixed Natural as a treated option, but we are able to apply a wood reserver to any of the finishes. Please contact us directly for a quote. We also have a range of wood stains which can be applied to the boards and also the Scorched, Charred and Deep Charred are suitable for outdoors, as the carbon layer protects it from weather elements and rot.
